On-hand vs. available stock
Klovio shows two quantities for a product. Confusing them leads to overselling, so it’s worth two minutes.
On hand
On hand is everything physically in the building — every good unit, in every location. It’s the warehouse-floor number.
Available
Available is on hand minus units already committed to open orders. It’s the number you can still promise to a new customer.
available = on hand − reserved for open orders
Why they differ
When an order is created, its stock is reserved — see How stock reservations work. The units are still on the shelf (on hand), but they’re spoken for (not available).
Which one to trust
- Deciding what you can sell or promise → available
- Checking what’s physically there to count → on hand
A product can show 200 on hand but only 30 available. Selling against the 200 oversells by 170.
Tip: when a count looks “wrong,” check whether you’re reading on-hand or available. Most “missing stock” reports are simply reserved stock.
