Create and manage categories

Last updated May 2026

Categories group your products — Food, Dry Goods, Packaging. They keep a large catalog navigable and power filters and reports.

Create a category

  1. Go to Inventory → Products → Categories.
  2. Click Add new.
  3. Enter a name and Save.

Assign products to a category

Set a product’s category on its add or edit form, in a CSV import, or in a bulk edit.

Where categories help

  • Filtering — narrow any product or stock list to one category
  • Reporting — see on-hand value or movement by category
  • Counts — run a cycle count for a single category

How many to use

Enough to be useful, few enough to stay meaningful — most warehouses do well with 8–20. If you need finer structure, see Organize categories into a hierarchy.

Tip: categorize by how you store and count stock, not how you market it. Categories that match the physical warehouse make counts and picks easier.
