Scanner won't scan a barcode
A barcode that won’t scan stops a pick or a receipt cold. Work this list top to bottom.
1. Is it a scan problem or a barcode problem?
Try the same code with a different method — camera if you were using a Bluetooth scanner, or vice versa. If both fail, the barcode itself is the issue.
2. The barcode is poor
- Damaged, smudged or low-quality print — type the number in by hand, then apply a fresh label. See Label stock as you receive it.
- Curved or wrinkled surface — flatten it and try again.
3. The camera
- Clean the lens — a smudge is the most common cause.
- Add light — turn on the torch in a dim aisle.
- Get closer, hold steady. See Get the best results from camera scanning.
4. The Bluetooth scanner
- Make sure it’s connected — re-pair it if not. See Pair a Bluetooth barcode scanner.
- Tap the scan field in Klovio first, so it has focus.
- Check the scanner’s battery.
5. The barcode isn’t registered
If it scans fine but Klovio says “not found,” the code isn’t on any product. Add it — see Add multiple barcodes to a product.
Tip: keep a label printer on the floor. The fastest fix for an unreadable barcode is usually a fresh one, not troubleshooting the old one.
