Run an inventory movement report
A movement report shows stock flow — what entered, left and shifted over a period. Where the on-hand report is a photo, this is the film.
What it covers
- Receipts — units in, by product and supplier
- Shipments — units out, by product and customer
- Transfers — stock moved between locations or warehouses
- Adjustments — corrections, with their reasons
Run it
Open Reports → Movement, or build it from receipt history and shipment history for a date range.
What it tells you
- Velocity — which products move fast and which barely move (see Find slow-moving and dead stock)
- Trends — receiving and shipping rising or falling over time
- Demand — units shipped per day, the input to reorder points
Use it for
- Buying — fast-movers tell you what to reorder and how often
- Slotting — put the highest-velocity SKUs in the easiest pick locations
- Forecasting — last quarter’s movement is the best guide to next quarter’s
Tip: rank products by units shipped and apply the 80/20 rule. The top fifth of SKUs usually drives most of your movement — focus your reorder and slotting attention there.
