Run an inventory movement report

Last updated May 2026

A movement report shows stock flow — what entered, left and shifted over a period. Where the on-hand report is a photo, this is the film.

What it covers

  • Receipts — units in, by product and supplier
  • Shipments — units out, by product and customer
  • Transfers — stock moved between locations or warehouses
  • Adjustments — corrections, with their reasons

Run it

Open Reports → Movement, or build it from receipt history and shipment history for a date range.

What it tells you

Use it for

  • Buying — fast-movers tell you what to reorder and how often
  • Slotting — put the highest-velocity SKUs in the easiest pick locations
  • Forecasting — last quarter’s movement is the best guide to next quarter’s

Tip: rank products by units shipped and apply the 80/20 rule. The top fifth of SKUs usually drives most of your movement — focus your reorder and slotting attention there.
