Set up and use staging areas
A staging area is a temporary holding spot — somewhere stock pauses on its way in or out, without being a real storage location.
Add a staging area
- Go to Warehouse → Warehouses → Staging.
- Click Add new, name it (e.g.
STG-INBOUND-1,STG-DOCK-A). - Save.
Two common uses
- Inbound staging — received goods sit here until they’re put away to a storage location.
- Outbound staging — packed orders wait here for the carrier pickup.
How staging differs from storage
Stock in a staging area is counted as inventory you own — but the area isn’t a picking location. An order can’t be picked from outbound staging, and stock isn’t expected to live in staging long-term. It’s a corridor, not a room.
Keep staging clear
Staging works only if it stays a transit zone. Stock that lingers in inbound staging is stock pickers effectively can’t reach — put it away the same day. A staging area that’s always full is really a put-away backlog.
Tip: name staging areas by dock or door (
STG-DOCK-A). When a truck arrives, “stage it at Dock A” maps to a real place and a real Klovio location.
