Set up aisles, shelves and bins

Last updated May 2026

A location is a specific spot inside a warehouse — an aisle, a shelf, a bin. Locations are what make Klovio able to tell a picker exactly where to walk.

Add locations

  1. Go to Warehouse → Warehouses → Locations.
  2. Choose the warehouse.
  3. Click Add new and enter a location code.
  4. Save. To build out a warehouse quickly, add a batch or import them.

Each location gets its own barcode automatically — print them with Print barcode location labels.

A naming scheme that works

Locations work best with a consistent, sortable code. A common pattern:

[Aisle]-[Bay]-[Level]
A-03-B → Aisle A, Bay 03, Level B

Why it matters:

  • Codes sort naturally, so Klovio can route a picker in walking order.
  • A human can read A-03-B and find it even without a scanner.
  • It scales — adding Aisle D later doesn’t break anything.

Pick one scheme and use it everywhere. Mixed conventions are the main cause of slow picking.

Staging areas

A staging area is a temporary holding spot — inbound goods waiting to be put away, or packed orders waiting for the carrier. Add these under Warehouse → Warehouses → Staging. Staging areas hold stock but aren’t picking locations.

Don’t over-engineer it

You don’t need a bin for every square foot on day one. Start with aisles and main shelves, get receiving and picking running, then add finer bins where you actually need them.

Tip: walk the floor with the printed labels in hand and mount them as you go. A location that exists in Klovio but isn’t labeled on the rack only causes confusion.
