Track inventory by lot
Lot tracking records the batch number a unit belongs to. It’s essential for food, beverage, pharma and anything subject to a recall.
Turn on lot tracking
Lot tracking is set per product — enable it on the products that need it, not the whole catalog. Edit the product and turn on Lot tracking.
Capturing lots
Once enabled:
- Receiving — the app asks for the lot number as you take stock in.
- Picking — Klovio records which lot was pulled for each order.
So every unit carries a thread from supplier batch to customer shipment.
Why it matters
If a supplier issues a recall on lot B-2291, you can answer two questions immediately:
- Do we still hold any of lot
B-2291? — quarantine it. - Which customers received it? — from shipment history.
That’s the difference between a targeted recall and pulling everything.
Lot vs. serial vs. expiry
- Lot — a batch of identical units (this article)
- Serial — one unique number per single unit — see Track inventory by serial number
- Expiry/FEFO — date-driven picking — see Manage expiry dates and FEFO
Tip: turn on lot tracking before you receive a lot-controlled product, not after. Lots can’t be reconstructed for stock already on the shelf.
